The manhattan vintage show

This photo essay is focused on the topic of "Vintage". For me, the word "vintage" offers us

an escape from today's life - it has magic that allows people to travel through time

and experience another person's life from different ages

by seeing and touching the objects like an antique mirror, hat or costume.

Photos for this project were taken in the Manhattan Vintage Show

held on October 14th and 15th. I tried to explore people's love and

reactions to nostalgic pieces. During the show, it was also interesting

to see people who had new fashion looks created when mixing and

matching the old in different ways.

  • Amanda’s favourite rings.

  • This is Gretchen and the photo is taken at 125 West 18th Street outside of the exhibition Venue.

  • The woman in the photo is Dr. Colleen Darnell. She is an egyptologist and a vintage fashion aficionado. The dress that she wears is a true vintage attire from 1920 and her cloche is based on a French steel helmet, which was standard in World War I, called the “Adrian helmet,”.

  • Valerie, she called herself a Idiosyncratic Fashionista. She loves to wear striking, silly and sophisticated hats of all shapes and styles. It’s interesting that she said “Your dress has to be a certain way in order to accommodate reality. Your hat is a little freer."

  • David Moses, the store owner of Winning & Losing, who used to study photography in SVA and then later transferred to FIT for fashion design. He is fond of collecting nostalgic pieces, like matchbox, wallets and these freaky dolls.

  • Erin Silvers, the founder of Zingara Vintage. Her store is specialized in restored vintage from Victorian era, the 90s, The duster that she was wearing was designed by herself, she called it ZingaraTerryDusters.
